5-6; -0.09pts

Round 1 plays (3pts):

Graeme McDowell to beat Chapchai Nirat -147 @ Extrabet [tie loses]  WON by 3
Backing a player with a very impressive record in Asia: since April 2007 he has finished in the top-20 in 10 of 13 starts in this region, winning the 2008 Ballantine's Championship in China. In the Hong Kong Open alone, he has played here in each of the last two years, finishing 6th and 11th. And in terms of form, he played in the Singapore Open two weeks ago and finished 5th. He really should beat Nirat who has missed 12 of his last 19 cuts and has a best finish of 69th in three attempts in this event.

Graeme McDowell to beat Darren Clarke -150 @ Paddy Power  WON by 2
McDowell should also beat Clarke who last played here in 2003 and is not in the same form as McDowell: he finished 13 shots behind him in the Singapore Open two weeks ago.

Thongchai Jaidee to beat Kodai Ichihara -147 @ Extrabet [tie loses]  WON by 1
Enough of an imbalance in this matchup to justify these odds. They have played in 18 common events with the score being 16-2 in favour of Jaidee and those two losses were both by a single shot. Ichihara's play has improved on the Asian PGA Tour in recent months, but he is still a long way below Jaidee's level (300 places lower in the World Rankings) and has yet to play on this course; Jaidee has made the cut here in each of his seven previous attempts, finishing 7th, 3rd, 2nd and 19th in the last four years here.
