Kiradech Aphibarnrat to beat David Howell - 6 points @ 10-11 (sportingbet)

Whilst there may not be a lot of course form about for the prestigious (well, in India at least) Avantha Masters, there is a lot of 'hidden form' in that the course at Jaypee Greens has been used for a few events on the Indian PGA over the past few years. Unfortunately for the matchups, most of the unknown potential is trading well down the oddsmakers lists and such does not qualify a mention in the 72-hole bets. However, as a note for punters, it is well worth researching the history of the course at  https://www.pgtofindia.com/index.php. Take a look at Mithun Perera for example of a player in form, with huge potential, yet trading well into treble figures.

As far as we know, the course is very open with wide fairways and whilst it reads fairly long, the humid conditions will help the ball travel and may yet prove, in fact, a bigger hindrence to the players than the bunkers and water hazards. The temptation was to be with Indian star Gaganjeet Bhullar who will relish the home support but he has let punters down recently and whilst he should be beating most of this field and comes here in ultra-confident mood, taking odds-on against similar long hitters just doesn't quite appeal.

Despite also letting down backers over the years Thai mountain Kiradech Aphibarnrat is expected to get the better of David Howell round a course that must surely suit his attacking style.

Alphie came close many times in Asian events for the first couple of years on the Asian Tour, often only failing when hitting the front with the Sky cameras recording every poor shot, but has improved his play dramatically over the ppast eighteen months, his ranking in the Asian Tour rising from 30th to 7th by the end of 2011. His breakthrough win at the SAIL Open was decent enough in this class, having the likes of Siddikur (changes his name more often than his underwear), Bhullar, Lahiri (flying at present) et al behind. He finished 2012 with two top-six finishes, the more significant being at the Thailand Golf Championship where he was fully 15 shots behind winner Charl Schwartzel but right on the tail of Bubba Watson and Sergio Garcia, all of whom would be rediculously short this week.

Whilst the proximity of the likes of Daniel Chopra, Prom Meesawat and Chapchai Nirat suggest this was a usual Asian event, all have performed creditably for a while and backers can not complain about Alphie's return behind Plaphol and the aforementioned Perera, when birdie chances at the final three holes just eluded him. This was a good prep for a return to India where his record reads 22/1/29/10/28 and the 23-year old may now be losing that immaturity and be ready to take his game on to another level.

Against that good recent and regional form, shorter hitter David Howell can only boast a best finish 36th in three recent attempts in India and playing at a longer course will put even more pressure on his iron play and putting. Whilst Howler has tended to find himself in decent halfway positions, he has yet to finish his events with confidence and it won't help that he will be fully 30 yards minimum behind the majority of these. Form on the Qatar Swing looks good on paper but that is now his home and this will prove an entirely different test. It does appear as though Howler is settled enough to be making regular cuts on Tour but this is asking a lot of him and he is expected to lose this matchup quite easily.
