Romain Langasque - 1 point ew @ 22/1 (bet365) Dylan Frittelli 1 point ew @ 28/1 (General) Sam Walker 0.75 point each-way @ 70/1 (Coral/Betfred)
Extremely remiss of us all to ignore the claims of SSP this week due to the length of his 'home' track, but once again the defending champion and Indian specialist has produced extremely tidy golf around a very difficult track to lead another reknown tricky course player in David Horsey. It may be that length will come to the fore come Sunday but with those two already in the house at a very respectable 4 and 5-under, they will take some shifting over the weekend. Still, the course is bound to get tougher as the days wear on and they will need to protect their lead around this Gary Player course around which there have already been plenty of individual hole scores in double-figures. Good Luck! I could have this very wrong, and given the start of this season it is highly likely (insert a 12-year-old's sad face) but something made me think of the Kenya event on the Challenge Tour. Perhaps that it is only a couple of weeks away but more because of the way the players need to be patient, play accuracy over strength and also have to fight any penal wind. There is always plenty of talk that Karen (in particular) needs learning due to it's tough tree-lined fairways and small undulating greens (also true of Morocco, scene of a Horsey victory) and I just wonder if it's worth going in that direction. This could be a war of attrition so I'm going with a couple that have that form in Kenya plus have shown they can handle conditions thus far. Both Dylan Fritteli and Romain Langasque are surely winners-in-waiting on the main tour and they also carry form from Kenya - the Frenchman runner-up last season, and the South African with a couple of top-10 finishes. They also come here with plenty of form - seven top-20 finishes between them in seven latest African outings, and given talk that Karen reminded Frittelli of home there is a possible link. Both players sit just five off the pace and safely in the house so prices of around 25-1 and 28-1 might look short enough but their games are bang-on for here and they need backing in some way. I'm going to add Challenge Tour graduate Sam Walker at a bigger price. Walker has been flitting between tours for a while but achieved his best ever CT ranking last season when winning twice to grab a top-5 in the Road To Oman. That 18th in Qatar is as good as we have seen thus far in 2017 but with decent finishes in Kenya behind him, it's not impossible he can hang around in the top-10 before the second round is up. He has only played eight holes of round two but may come out in the calmest and easiest of conditions tomorrow morning. His round thus far has mirrored exactly the first and, should that continue, he'll have a few birdie chances coming up. At the price and now a confident proven winner, he looks overpriced in an event where the apparent class differences may mean little compared to patience. Steven Tiley comes off the same thought process as all the above three but without that crucial winning form, so even at the price is left out. Not one to go mad with but this does look open and may continue to be right down to the 70th hole, should we make it that far.
