Lucas Bjerregaard - 0.50 points each-way @ 33-1 (general)
In terms of winner-finding, the 2013 season has been the best ever for the Challenge Tour but with the surfeit of new courses I have to draw the season to a close with just a small bet in the Grand Finale. The last few weeks have been tough with very little to go on and whilst the winners were not from the middle of nowhere, there has simply been nothing at all to use for a pre-event wager. Perhaps we should have taken a holiday a little earlier but after such a good season, with triple-figure profits, it's time to just sit back and enjoy them fighting out the 15 available European Tour cards with nothing major on the cards. The event has highlights each day on Sky Sports 4 for any interested viewers. Given the length of this week's course Al Badia, Lucas Bjerregaard was very tempting as a stronger bet. The Dane's length from the tee will be an advantage and he is still improving. Multiple winner on the satellite Tours, he is ready to win and that opinion was reinforced after last week's run through the field, eventually finishing runner-up after an opening 76 and 62nd place. His card, however, is littered with the odd round that sets him back and I just wonder if he is simply one of the first names on the list for 2014 rather than this week on a strange track. However, with many of the 45-man field out of form and reliant on early season wins to back up their claims, this is really a 20/25-player event and he isn't deserving of being more than 25-1 in that respect. To be fair, there isn't much else to go on. Fellow long-hitter Shiwan Kim is another with recent form and the length to count but he has already blown a few chances to win this year and looks to need a bit of maturity (and balls?) to go along with his talent, whilst the front of the market is just too short. Hopefully, many of you will have joined in the fun this season and banked a few quid (or what we can actually get on). See you here next season!
