Matthew Fitzpatrick - 1.5 points each-way @ 18-1 (advised) now 25-1 Bet365

Jens Fahrbring - 1.0 point each-way @ 80-1

Easily the most interesting competitor this week is Matthew Fitzpatrick, who made his debut as a professional straight after the US Open in June. The subject of much press, he has (obviously) a huge record in amateur competitions and has already caught the eye in the few events since. 23rd at The Heritage, 48th at that US Open with a final round 69, top-30 in Ireland and France all read on a different level to most of this field, whilst the m/c in the Scottish Open is easily overlooked when taking hint of the opening 69. At 19-years-old, Rory McIlroy may well have a rival soon enough (when Fitzy starts building his frame) and it could all start here. I didn't think 18-1 was a bad price despite him having not contended on a Sunday in a professional capacity, yet he is today available at 25-1 - this is a low-scoring track and he may carry too much class for the majority of these

For the only other selection I am rowing the Fahrbring boat again and will continue to do so for the next few weeks.

When backing him a couple of weeks ago in Slovakia, the point was made that he seems to come to life at this time of year. In 2013, he went 20th here before a 3rd in Finland and the debut win in Norway (62/66 finish) and he looks ripe to do similar this year. Average efforts improved a few weeks ago when 6th in Germany and whilst the 23rd in his most recent outing was a touch disappointing, he opened with a 73 and could never recover despite a 66/70/69 finish. Wisely missing the Swiss Challenge, an event in which he was a m/c last season, he will be surely trying to hone his game for the Scandanavian trio of events in August. The hints are there, he now just needs to perform.
