Carl Mason to win 9/2 @
SkyBet
1st
More of a saver bet really. With Watson and Torrance playing on the Champions
Tour in recent weeks and having no break before playing this week, they should
find this rare 72-hole event rather tiring and that makes for more value with
Mason. He finished a relatively lowly 10th last year, but had been struggling at
the time, while that is certainly not the case now. A year ago, he hadn't won an
event for over 12 months, now he has six times in the last 12 months, including
a run of 1st, 2nd and 1st in his last three starts. Should be the player to beat
this week.
Tony Johnstone to win 33/1 e.w. @
SkyBet
and

24th
Johnstone has been a regular on this Tour for just over a year and has yet to
win, but it is difficult when returning to competitive golf after concentrating
on a TV role beforhand. However, he has been getting closer: he held the
end-of-day lead in a Tour event for the first time in the Gloria Classic in May
(he finished 7th), held the lead for two rounds in the Open de France Senior (he
finished 3rd) and recovered from an opening 75 to shoot 69-69 over the remaining
two rounds at the weekend to finish 4th. That is good momentum heading into this
event and he should be confident having shot all four rounds at 70 or better to
finish 4th last year.
Simon Owen to win 66/1 e.w. @
SkyBet
20th
Owen has won already this year when defeating Carl Mason, Tony Allen and John
Benda in a playoff for the Italian Seniors Open and played well last week to
finish 5th. Add in a 7th place finish on this course last year that included a
second round 75 and there should be some value in these odds.
