European Masters
FINAL RESULT: 0-3; -3.00pts
Cejka wd
Cabrera 13th
Campbell 56th
Very poor from two of the selections. Just one bad round took Cabrera
out of contention for the places, but he still finished 21 shots behind
runaway winner, Luke Donald.
Outright plays (1pt):
Alex Cejka to win 20/1 e.w. available generally
Cejka was in contention for a wildcard selection for the Ryder Cup team,
but he was always a longshot and he shouldn't be too dejected this week
and he really couldn't have thought that he would be selected ahead of
Monty, Donald, Jacobson and co. And he is playing very well at the
moment. Not only did he finish 3rd last week, but he finished 9th in the
NEC Invitational and 2nd in the International four weeks ago. Add in his
course form - three top-6 finishes in his last five visits - and his
very impressive record in Europe - a win and no finish worse than 13th
place in the last two years (8 starts) - and it should only be fatigue
that would prevent him from contending this week.

Away from the pressures of Ryder Cup selection and the last two
selections have had the benefit of at least a week's rest. Cabrera is
one of the best players on the European Tour and could draw inspiration
from the fact that fellow countrymen, Eduardo Romero and Ricardo
Gonzalez, have both won this event. He has improved in each of his last
four visits to finish 10th last time and if there is any Ryder Cup race
hangover, Cabrera is certainly a likely beneficiary.
Michael Campbell to win 25/1 e.w. @

Cambo's form has been rather indifferent recently, though he did finish
2nd in the Scottish Open last month. He did not play in the NEC
Invitational, so fatigue will certainly not be a problem and this is an
event which, because of the altitude of the course, requires experience.
Campbell has lots of experience here and that includes a top-15 finish
in each of his last four visits, including a 2nd place finish last year.
