Matchup Picks - European Tour

Tipsters: Stanley (72-hole matchups) & Andy (18-hole matchups)

Andy is on holiday until the Open Championship

European Open

FINAL RESULT: 4-0-0; +6.00pts

Cabrera/Poulter WON by 6
Goosen/Rose WON by 11
O'Hern/Rose WON by 1
O'Hern/McDowell WON by 16

Nice sweep to bring the event into profit. Nothing from the outrights with Cabrera and O'Hern and passed over Goosen in that market, but at least they delivered here.

72-hole plays (1pt unless stated):

Angel Cabrera to beat Ian Poulter -125 @ Five Dimes
Both capable of winning, but Poulter is certainly opposable in match bets. For example, whereas Cabrera has finished in the top-10 in seven of his last ten events in Ireland, making the cut every time, Poulter has made the weekend in three three of nine starts in Ireland. In terms of current form, Cabrera has finished ahead of Poulter in each of the last five common events, so should be a strong favourite to do so again.

Retief Goosen to beat Justin Rose -200 @ NordicBet [2pts]
These odds are as low as I'll go for a matchup, but will gladly take the chance to oppose Rose. On Monday he declared "There's no point going if you've got no chance to win - and I'm hitting it terrible" though at least he has changed his mind. Even if he were at the top of his game, he would struggle to beat the U.S. Open champion over 72 holes.

Nick O'Hern to beat Justin Rose -114 @ Expekt [2pts]
And will oppose him with one of the outright selections. O'Hern has a 9-2-0 h2h record against Rose across all events in the past year and with Rose really struggling at the moment and O'Hern in his best form for years, this should be an easy win.

Nick O'Hern to beat Graeme McDowell -110 @ SkyBet
Will take on McDowell as well with O'Hern. Both have been in great form over the last two events, but McDowell has finished ahead of O'Hern only three times in ten common events in 2004. There is also an increased emphasis on putting ability this week, particularly on fast surfaces, and this should heavily favour O'Hern. McDowell has ranked 108th, 110th and 70th in 'total putting' in his three years on the European Tour.
