Matchup Picks - European Tour

Tipsters: Stanley (72-hole matchups) & Andy (18-hole matchups)

Open de Madrid

FINAL RESULT: 2-2-1; -0.31pts

O'Hern/Davis TIED (Dead heat)
Hansen/Gonzalez WON by 10
Immelman/Gonzales WON by 6
Lynn/Lara LOST by 5
O'Hara/Sterne LOST by 18

Successfully opposed Gonzalez, but that was all. Not much comfort in your reading of a tournament when you oppose the eventual winner.

72-hole plays (1pt):

Nick O'Hern to beat Brian Davis -120 @ Centrebet
Davis does have a very good record in Spain, but his form has been disappointing ever since the pressure began to build for Ryder Cup qualification and he has yet to regain it in the last month. O'Hern has finished ahead of him in seven of their last eight common events in Europe, so should be expected to do so again despite the location.

Anders Hansen to beat Ricardo Gonzalez -110 @ BetInternet and BlueSq
Neither are consistent players, but Hansen has rediscovered his form recently and it has helped him to a 8-1-0 h2h lead over Gonzalez in 2004. The Argentinean may have won this event last year, but Hansen has finished in the top-15 in each of the last three years and has shown enough form to suggest he will do so again this year.

Trevor Immelman to beat Ricardo Gonzalez -110 @ Stan James
Same here. Immelman also has a 8-1-0 h2h lead over Gonzalez in 2004 and while his course form is not as impressive as Hansen's, he is simply a much better player. I can't imagine these two players being in the same matchups too often!

David Lynn to beat Jose Manuel Lara -111 @ Ladbrokes
An 11th place finish last week was a good result for Lara, but he is hardly in the same class of player as Lynn who has finished ahead of him in each of their last six common events, a run that includes a victory at the KLM Open.

Steven O'Hara to beat Richard Sterne -110 @ Stan James
Another difference in class ... or at least in terms of their performances when in Europe as Richard Sterne in South Africa is another matter. In the last six months O'Hara leads Sterne 11-3-0 h2h and while neither player has previously played on this course, O'Hara does have a good record in Spain: he finished in the top-10 in the Open de Sevilla in April and in the Tour Q-School last November.
