Open de Madrid
FINAL RESULT:
0-4; -4.00pts
Howell mc
O'Hern 47th
Davis 47th
Immelman 9th
O'Hern looked like he might at least snatch a place win and Immelman
looked as though he might mount a challenge, but rarely got out of
second gear over the weekend. Very poor.
Further outright play (1pt):
Trevor Immelman to win 10/1 e.w. @

The South African
nearly didn’t start this event. He had to be taken to hospital after
suffering a severe allergic reaction to a wasp sting on the practice
ground on Wednesday. But even though he was still feeling the effects
during the first round, he has put himself within three shots of the
lead with 36 holes to play and will feel stronger each day. In this
position, he is a great weekend player. In his last twelve European and
Southern Africa Tour events in which he has entered the weekend in the
top-10, he has won three occasions and finished 2nd five
times! On only three out of twelve occasions has he finished outside the
top-4 necessary for at least a place return on an each-way stake. I was
hoping for 10/1 and I’m very pleased to have found it!
Outright plays (1pt):
David Howell to win 16/1 e.w. @

With top-5 finishes in his last two starts and a strong of high finishes
that earned him his Ryder Cup place, Howell is the in-form player in
this field. His record on this course and in Spain in general may be
average, but he has never played with such confidence and if he
continues to putt as well as he is doing, he will certainly be
challenging for this title.
Nick O'Hern to win 20/1 e.w. available generally
Another in-form player who top-10 finishes in three of his last four
starts and a string of top-10 finishes throughout the year. Not quite in
the same form as Howell, but with finishes of 14th and 2nd in his two
previous visits to Club de Campo, there is every reason to expect O'Hern
to also be among the contenders on Sunday.
Brian Davis to win 33/1 e.w. @
William Hill
When in Spain, Davis should also be in contention. Not only is he a
former winner in this country, but his record on this course reads 3rd,
2nd and 20th. His form has been a little inconsistent this season, but
if there is ever a place to back Davis, it is here in Spain.
