Outright Picks - European Tour

Tipster: Stanley

Volvo Masters

FINAL RESULT: 0-3; -3.00pts

Donald 19th
Cabrera 19th
Hansen 38th

Could have been better. Cabrera held the lead on his own towards the end of his second round, but struggled over the weekend, while Donald started and finished the week well, but will want to forget the rest. At least they had chances, which Hansen did not.

Outright plays (1pt):

Luke Donald to win 16/1 e.w. available generally
Never played in Spain, let alone on this course, but there is a sense of expectancy surrounding Donald and he is living up to it. He did let his last European title slip from his grasp, but with two wins in his last four regular European Tour events and being the top-ranked player in this field in terms of scoring average - he ranks 2nd behind Els and over 0.7 shots ahead of the next highest-ranked player in this field (Garcia) - he is capable of winning any event in Europe. If he shoots 271 or better this week, he will finish the season with the best scoring average on Tour. Quite a turnaround for a player who was not a member of the Tour six months ago.

Angel Cabrera to win 25/1 e.w. @ BlueSq
The next two selections also rank in the top-10 in scoring average, though more than a full shot per round higher than Donald. 'The Duck' hasn't won for two years, but he does get himself into contention a great deal and this year has been no different. In fact, he arguably played some of his best golf two weeks ago when involved in a great match with Ernie Els in the World Matchplay at Wentworth. He returned to Argentina last week for a rest after three straight weeks on Tour, so if he is refreshed and can repeat some of his Wentworth form, he could certainly improve on his 4th place of 2002 when he held a four-shot lead heading into the weekend.

Anders Hansen to win 50/1 e.w. @ Ladbrokes and BlueSq
It has also been two years since Hansen's last Tour win, but these are generous odds for someone ranked so high in the Tour's scoring average charts. He started the season in great form and while he struggled in the summer, with a 2nd and a 4th place finish in the last month, he is clearly back to his best form. With a good record around this course - he was 3rd after 54 holes last year - he could certainly record another place win.
