Volvo PGA Championship
Post-round 1 update:
OK, all four with no chance whatsoever. Absolutely no fun for the
second consecutive European tournament, looks like my week away next
week has come at the perfect time. Loss = 3.5 pts.
Adding:
Back Patrik Sjoland to win 0.5 pts @ 210 at
Betfair
Obviously a little speculative but two top fives in six outings, his
first since mid-2000, means this former European number 5 demands a
second look again. It was 1998 when he hit those heights in the Order Of
Merit, and it was also the year he made second place here. That was his
second high finish at Wentworth in three years, after a 7th in 1996, and
he only now seems to be producing some iron play almost comparable with
those best years of his career. After his very prominent show in the
other English event of the season two outings ago, when he wasn't
disgraced on the weekend but understandably failed to turn his halfway
lead into a victory, I feel odds of over 200/1 are worth a nibble.

Back Brian Davis to win 1.25 pts @ 100 at

Desperately tried to find a big name to form the backbone of the
selections but I just cannot find any that appeal at the prices and will
instead go with the B team! Despite a pretty poor show last week,
I'll stick with Davis as he is some 30-40 pts bigger. I still maintain
he is one of the best players on the European Tour and it is only a
matter of time before he bounces back to form. Very rarely anywhere near
three figures in the betting in Europe, lets hope he can now add to the
win and two other top fives he's achieved this season.
Update 45 mins after posting: All the 110 and even the 100
has been snapped up, I'd just like to state that I think even down to 90
is worth taking.
Back Barry Lane to win 1 pt @ 100 at

BlueSq)
I rarely back a player soon after he has won as the odds are invariably
much reduced, but I am making an exception here. In 11 starts this
season he has missed the top 30 just twice, and that includes a very
decent 23rd last week in his first appearance after his super win at the
Forest of Arden. 5th here last year and 19th the year before, it all
looks in place for another good week for him.
Back Bradley Dredge to win 0.75 pts @ 200 at
Betfair
Nothing in recent or course form to recommend him, but this is a big
price and I'm going to chance it. As with Davis, it's only a matter of
time before he pops up again and it's only a month since he was securing
his 5th top 15 in six outings. A case of hitting and hoping at odds that
would seem unbelievable if he were to challenge.
