Summary: Bets
5, Wins 0, Loss 20.5 Pts.
Another week of opposing selections who end up at the top of the leaderboard.
Last Thursday was Groundhog day and it feels like that on this tour.
Pre Round Two Trades
Sell Tiger Woods over Darren Clarke 18H MB at 8 with Spreadex for 0.25 Pts M/U 16, Loss 2 Pts
Sell Retief Goosen over Nick O'Hern 18H MB at 4 with Spreadex for 0.25 Pts M/U 25, Loss 5.25 Pts A bit disappointing to lose out today on both matches considering our picks are tied 5th and Tied 11th but it does give us the opportunity to try and get it back tomorrow at similar prices. O’Hern played well today and was just beaten by a player who was in “the zone” and Clarke done well on his back 9 to get to –4 and only lose out by 1. Even allowing for the defeats the prices remain value as our players didn’t play badly at all.
Pre Round One Trades
Sell Retief Goosen over Nick O'Hern 18H MB at 4 with Sporting Index for 0.25 Pts M/U 19, Loss 3.75 Pts O'Hern, like Clarke, finished 19th on his seasonal start in Qatar. This followed a superb end to 2005 where he finished 3/2/3/3 in events in China and Australia. Goosen starts his year this week and may need R1 to get going so at the available price from Sporting we have a bit of value.
Sell Tiger Woods over Darren Clarke 18H MB at 8 with Sporting Index for 0.25 Pts M/U 13, Loss 1.25 Pts It looks like Sporting have priced this one on the basis that they expect people will back Woods more than Clarke so offer a price that will see them win in the long run, IG go 6-9. A M/C in 04’ followed an 11th and 7th in the two previous years for Clarke whereas Woods has a 5th and 2nd in two visits. This is Clarke’s 2nd start of the year after a 19th last week and he has his wife for company this week which must be a great positive. He also states that he had three practice days in Dubai before going off to Qatar so he is definitely more acclimatised than Woods who was on the west coast swing only a few days ago. I would be surprised if Clarke finishes in front of Woods over 4 days but he is certainly value to do so over 1.
Buy Henrik Stenson FP at 24 with Sporting Index for 0.5 Pts
M/U 7.5, Loss 8.25 Pts Stenson is undoubtedly the new star of the European Tour but his record round this course so far has been very poor, although it has improved year on year in the 5 attempts he has had on it. He would need to better his best finish previously to beat the quote this week and with the added advantages of a more open ended scoring system, 24 has to be taken. With three of the world’s top 5 in attendance and the cream of the European Tour to back them up Stenson should be nearer 30 with Sporting although with an acceptance in placing the bet that he is in the form of his life. |
