Round 2:

Back Arron Oberholser against Padraig Harrington and Nick O'Hern to win 2.5pts @3.8 at Expekt - lost

Round 1:

Back Nick O’Hern to beat Padraig Harrington to win 2pts @2.36 at Pinnacle - won

Harrington is fancied by many as a potential winner, but I wonder if maybe there is a bit too much of a weight of expectation on him which may adversely affect his performance on the first day. Even when he’s managed a decent finish in Opens he’s often got off to slow starts. O’Hern is a steady player and there shouldn’t be any of the usual ‘leaderboard issues’ for him with it being the first day.

Back John Senden against Mikko Ilonen and SK Ho to win 2pts @2.37 at Betfred, BlSq, Skybet - lost

Taking Senden’s momentum and what must be a huge confidence boost of finally winning an event of some standing at last weeks John Deere to hopefully see him get off to a flier here.

Back Mark Calcavecchia against Angel Cabrera and Kenneth Ferrie to win 2.5pts @4.2 at Betfair - 2 way tie

Think Calcavecchia might just have a little bit of Open magic left in him yet. He was quite competitive in his last outing at The Western Open before a final round 76 saw him fall down the leaderboard. He’s certainly been in better shape and physical stamina may well be a concern for the former winner, but I’ve no worries about backing him when he’s out early in the morning in round 1.

Back Bernhard Langer against Paul Lawrie and Kenny Perry to win 2.5pts @3.6 at Ladbrokes, Betfair - lost

Another veteran, who is still capable of producing the goods in this event as he showed with his T5th finish last year. Again another who maybe is unlikely to maintain a challenge in to the week, but who could easily get off to a good start.

Back Stuart Appleby against Colin Montgomerie and John Daly to win 1.5pts @2.62 at Betfair - lost

Monty’s open record, last year aside, is very poor, while Daly’s game has really suffered with his off-course troubles and I think it’s unlikely he’ll suddenly find form here. Appleby has a solid open record, is in reasonable form and I think should be a fair bit shorter in this 3 ball.

Back JJ Henry against Jamie Donaldson and Richard Green to win 3pts @3.25 at Betfair - lost

Henry’s first open but he comes here on the back of a win at the Buick Championship. This is by no means sparkling opposition and even with his assumed lack experience in these conditions this price looks very big.

Back Stewart Cink against Tim Clark and Johan Edfors to win 3pts @3.2 at Ladbrokes, Sporting Odds - 2 way tie

Cink is a quality player in reasonable form with a solid record in this event and seems to have been somewhat overlooked this week going by his outright price. I can’t have him as the outsider of the three in this group.
