Raphael Jacquelin to win 28/1 e.w. @ Boyle Sports [6 places]  7th
The Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort hosted the Irish Senior Open from 2002 to 2004, but there is little that can be garnished from those events. Instead, a strong run of form and some history of playing well in Ireland are the prerequisites for this week's selections. And Jacquelin certainly meets the mark on form: in his last four events, he has finished 2nd, 6th, 1st and 7th. And, after finishing 2nd in this event in 2004 (plus he had been 2nd with one round to play in the 2005 European Open at the K Club), it is surprising that he is available at 28/1 when he had been 22/1 last time out. The return from Sawgrass of Padraig Harrington and the woefully out-of-form Darren Clarke and Michael Campbell has not added that much quality relative to the Italian Open field.

Nick Dougherty to win 33/1 e.w. @ BetInternet [6 places]  mc
I know I'm going to regret backing Dougherty to win! I backed him for first-round leader in the Italian Open two weeks ago and he finished two shots out of a place finish, but he then went on to finish 3rd. That makes two top-4 finishes and an 8th place finish in his last five starts, which is impressive enough. And he did finish 3rd in this event in 2005 ... though he had been leading with one round to play. Either way, in this form he looks a good 8.25/1 shot for a top-6 finish and he may yet stumble over the line for victory in Europe.

Martin Kaymer to win 50/1 e.w. @ Paddy Power, BetInternet and Boyle Sports [6 places]  35th
Kaymer breaks the mould for this week's selections having not played a Tour event in Ireland previously. But given that he was merely playing in German pro Tours 12 months ago shows just how much of an impact he has made in the last year. Since the European Tour returned to Europe, he has finished in the top-15 in each of his four starts, including one top-3 finish (Estoril Open de Portugal), so with virtually everyone else also playing this course for this first time, he really should be backed at this price.
