Steve Webster to win 25/1 e.w. @
Boyle Sports
[6 places] mc
Avoiding players who competed in the PGA Championship last week even if they did
miss the cut because of the heat and the travelling involved. So, instead, I'm
looking for Steve Webster to continue his run of form that netted him finishes
of 8th, 7th and 6th in his last three starts with a 65 in the final round of the
last European Tour event. He did finish in the top-10 in his last Scandinavian
Masters (2004), but it is basically his current form that earns him attention
this week. Odds of 28/1 are available, but there should be better value at 25/1
with an extra place on offer.
Simon Khan to win 33/1 e.w. @
SkyBet,
Victor
Chandler,
William Hill
and
ToteSport 55th
Khan's last appearance in this event was also in 2004 and he, too, finished in
the top-10 that week and, also like Webster, he has shown some good form over
the last couple of months with finishes of 3rd, 7th and 11th in three of his
last five starts. Renowned for his accuracy rather than his power, he should
find this course to his liking.
Alexander Noren to win 55/1 e.w. @ Stan James
and Bet365
mc
With the odds prohibitively low on Johansson and Edberg, Noren is the chosen
home player to be backed this week. Unlike all but a handful of players, he does
have course experience, having finished 9th in the Skandia PGA Open (a European
Challenge Tour event) in 2005 in his first event as a professional after
graduating from Oklahoma State University; he had finished in the top-20 in this
event as an amateur just three weeks previously. He has won on the Challenge
Tour, led the Estoril Open de Portugal with one round to play in April and
finished 5th in the Deutsche Bank Players' Championship of Europe last time out,
so he is clearly capable of competing at this higher level. Around this course,
he may well provide the fans with a long overdue home win.
