5-4; -0.08pts

Round 1 plays (1pt):

Kenneth Ferrie to beat Pablo Martin -120 @ FiveDimes  LOST by 4
Big difference in form between these two: Ferrie is coming off a top-10 finish last week (Martin missed the cut, 15 shots behind Ferrie) and in their nine common events since June, Ferrie has finished ahead of the Spaniard in seven of them. Even in terms of the 1st round, Ferrie has shot the lower score in seven of nine occasions. Playing in a home event may compensate partially for Martin, but he has not played on this course previously on Tour, whereas Ferrie performed solidly in his previous appearance in 2007.

Paul Broadhurst to beat Benn Barham -116 @ Extrabet [tie loses]  WON by 2
Not as profilic as he once was, but Broadhurst is still a player to back in certain markets when on the Iberian Peninsula. That is not the case with Barham who has missed nine of his last ten cuts in Spain and Portugal, including this event last year. With Broadhurst showing better form recently (bar the Austrian Open), he should start this event much better than his opponent.

Gary Murphy to beat Raul Quiros -115 @ FiveDimes  VOID (Quiros dns)
Huge gulf in class between these two players. Murphy has been an ever-present on the European Tour since 2003 and has two top-20 finishes in his last four events; Quiros' only European Tour card earned to date was on the 2001 Challenge Tour and while he finished 2nd in a European Qualifying Stage 1 event last month, he has a further two stages to complete to reach Murphy's level. Again, will playing in a home event lessen the gap between the two players? Not if course form is an indication: Murphy finished 31st on this course in the 2007 Open de Espana; Quiros missed the cut in a 2006 Challenge Tour event here.
