1-2; -3.60pts (system plays: 2-1-2) Friday Fourballs play (4pts): Lee Westwood/Martin Kaymer to bea Phil Mickelson/Dustin Johnson +115 @ Unibet WON 3&2 Monty has put his strongest two players (at least in terms of World Ranking) out first and that looks a good play, particularly on home soil. It should ease the nerves of the rookie Kaymer, who has won his last two events, including the PGA Championship, and it is a sign of confidence in the fitness (and form) of Westwood who hasn't played for eight weeks. It is their opponents that are the main reason for this play. Mickelson's form has been patchy at best since the U.S. Open almost four months ago and Dustin Johnson is hardly noted for his ability to play under pressure. If Mickelson continues to struggle to find the fairways, he will have to face more pressure than usual for any Ryder Cup rookie on foreign soil. [unofficial system play: Cink/Kuchar tb McIlroy/McDowell +220 (T)] Session 2 Foursome play (4pts): Francesco Molinari/Edoardo Molinari to beat Zach Johnson/Hunter Mahan -105 @ Pinnacle [tie void] LOST 2 Holes Session 4 Singles play (4pts): Matt Kuchar to beat Ian Poulter +124 @ Pinnacle [tie void] LOST 5&4 Poulter is clearly the new 'Seve' in the European team and he has been playing well, particularly today with Kaymer not recording a birdie in their fourball win over Mickelson and Fowler, but there may well be a letdown in this longest of Ryder Cup weeks. Even if not, he still faces the American team's most consistent player both before this event and during it - he and Cink are the only undefeated players on the American team (Westwood and Kaymer share the same distinction on the European team). There is certainly value in these odds for a player like Kuchar. [unofficial system play: Harrington tb Johnson Z +150 (L); Mickelson tb Hanson +110 (W); Cink tb McIlroy +123 (T); Jimenez tb Watson -121 (W)]
