G.MCDOWELL TO BEAT RORY MCILROY - 3 points @ 6-5 (Boyle/Corals)
The McIlroy bandwagon has stalled somewhat over the past couple of months and whilst he will undoubtedly spring back to top form soon enough, everything points to his opponent being screaming value at odds-against to beat him. Rory simply doesn't look right and the loss of his driving accuracy will be penal around here, where the rough has been called the most brutal ever. He may not need to take Driver that much but proven to be less effective in any wind, nothing in his recent or Open profile suggests he will do anything special. Against him, GMac is far more used to being short but accurate off the tee and was begging for true Links conditions in Ireland, where he and McIlroy finished far too late. In complete contrast to his oppo, GMac has been finding his form in no uncertain terms. Unfortunate to lose the U.S Open, he caught the eye over the last two weeks whilst seemingly saving something, perhaps for this week. There really seems very little between them on overall form, but it is not hard to see that Rory has a mental issue at the moment and the nature of the course and the shots required seems to suit the elder of the two Major winners.
G.MCDOWELL TO BEAT LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN - 6 points @ 5-6 (SportingBet)
Again, whilst both are Major winners, the South African's victory came courtesy of a track where accuracy off the tee didn't matter. Another to have lost his form - a best of 19th in six starts including four missed-cuts - he looks to struggle this week and should give best to the Irishman, who again looks superior on talent, recent form, event form, and crucially in belief.
