Kristopher Broberg 1.5 points ew 80/1 Ladbrokes
I am short of time today but still think promising Swede Broberg is well worth a bet at Ladbrokes inflated odds.
Clearly the Swedes have taken this national tournament to heart and a proliferation of them in the top20 means they have very strong credentials for winning the trophy.
Even if Henrik Stenson has struggled, a promising group of home players hold every chance of clearing away over what is usually a tricky weekend here. The unknown Kinhult and the Challenge Tour graduate Dantorp lead the way but the market seems to have underestimated last years Scottish Open runner-up.
Clearly Alex Noren should be favourite in an event he has already won. Recent efforts back from injury are excellent and despite not landing a few bets last week when strongly fancied there was enough there to once again hint that he retained all his old ability. Joost Luiten proved you can win big events after injury and Noren has to be fancied to go very close here this week even at a price shy of 10-1.
However, when Kris Broberg was winning his three Challenge Tour events, we learned that his close friend Broberg was held in equally high regard, if not higher, and it was just a matter of time before he won on Tour.
It's more inexperience than anything with has cost the younger man any consistency in his game but it cannot be any coincidence that his best efforts at the second level were all in and around Scandinavia.
There have been bits and pieces if form but he is hard on himself when making errors and it may be that he needs another year. Nevertheless he is also extremely talented and can go on silly birdie runs at any point.
I was tempted to trade him on the machine and still may well do, but the 80-1 looks very wrong given the place odds first four and I'll take the chance that way remembering that players do t shorten up enough if someone runs away with it (as a Noren could) yet the places are still up for grabs till the 18th.
A veritable smorgasbord of golf ahead.
