Casio World Open
Outright plays (1 unit):
Shingo Katayama to win 12/1 e.w. @ Paddy Power
This has the look of a regular Japan Tour event and so siding with two of the
Tour's best players who won eight Japan Tour events between them last year. Last
week's 21st place finish was only the second time in nine events that he had
finished outside the top-8 and that run includes victory in the Suntory Open.
Twice he has finished in the top-5 in the last three years and he looks good for
a repeat performance this year.
Toshimitsu Izawa to win 14/1 e.w. @ Ladbrokes
Hasn't had the explosive season he had last year when he topped the Japan Tour
Money List, but he has played more often in international events this year.
Nevertheless, his 25th place finish last week was only the second time in six
events that he has finished outside the top-10 and he has an excellent record on
this course: two top-3 finishes in the last three years. Very hard to see
neither Katayama nor Izawa securing at least a place win this week.
Katsunori Kuwabara to win 100/1 e.w. @ Bet365
and BetInternet
Staggering price when he is available at 33/1 at SkyBet or Ladbrokes. Like the
other selections, he comes off an easy week, though still finishing in the
top-25, in the high profile Dunlop Phoenix and had been in good form beforehand:
he had had four top-10 finishes in his previous seven starts. It has been four
years since his last win - the 1998 Japan PGA Matchplay Championship - but he is
playing well enough to secure a top-5 finish, just as he did two years ago on
this course.
Matchup play (1 unit):
Toshimitsu Izawa to beat Trevor Immelman -128 @ Five
Dimes
Mid-point update:
Izawa/Immelman Leads by 1
Katayama 13th
Izawa 9th
Kuwabara dnp
Should be a close event. All three players are on the first page
of the leaderboard and could just as easily secure a sweep in the matchups and
the outright as a blank.
Final update:
Matchups: 0-1-0; -1.28 units
Izawa/Immelman LOST by 2
Outrights: 0-2; -2.00 units
Katayama 9th
Izawa 27th
Blank and not sweep! The 3rd round was cancelled and Izawa
played very poorly at the start of his final round. Should have secured a place
finish from Katayama, but he failed to birdie the last hole which played the
easiest hole all week.
