Women's British Open
Outright plays (1 unit):
Se Ri Pak to win 12/1 e.w. @ Bet365
or Blue Square
The defending champion, but Sherri Steinhauer defended this title in 1999 and
Pak is certainly capable of doing the same. Of her main opponents, Webb has not
played particularly well in this event since winning it in 1997 and nor is she
in the best of form, while hot favorite Sorenstam has never won this event
despite finishing in the top-3 four times, though each time it was on a parkland
and not a links course. She's won one of the majors so far this year and is in
excellent form. She should go very close.
Laura Diaz to win 40/1 e.w. @ Victor
Chandler
Very strange price. Diaz has finished 14th, 6th and 3rd in the last three years
and is worthy of a much lower price. A two-time winner on the LPGA Tour this
year and finished 4th on her last trip to Europe in the Evian Masters, Diaz is a
potential winner this week.
Rosie Jones to win 50/1 e.w. @ Victor
Chandler or Blue Square
Jones is much less likely to win this event, but is one of the most consistent
top-20 players on the LPGA Tour. She has finished in the top-20 in 11 of 15
events this year and has a similarly impressive record in this event. In five
starts, she has finished 7th, 2nd, 14th, 17th and 12th. Unlike the other two
selections, she played in last week's LPGA Tour event (she finished 6th), but
looks a decent prospect for a place finish.
Final update: 0-3; -3.00 units
Pak 11th
Diaz mc
Jones mc
Diaz had a good first round, but faced the worst of the weather on Friday,
while Pak was always just off the pace. Not too much encouragement from a poor
event.
