Algarve Ladies Open of Portugal
RESULT: 0-3;-4.5 points (YTD -13.5 points) Sandolo T12th Monnet-Melocco T21st Blomqvist T12th Very disappointing result. Monnet-Melocco was one shot off the lead going into Sunday. She birdied the first to join the leaders and then proceeded to play some rubbish to finish with a 77. The other two were really never likely but at least managed to hold it together on Sunday. 1.5 points per play.
Sophie Sandolo to win 12/1 each way at Skybet Sandolo has certainly lifted her game this year. In her last 4 starts she has finished 6th, 7th, 3rd and 14th. Of the players on the LET who have played more than 20 rounds this year, she ranks 4th in scoring average behind Zorzi, Brooky and Tinning (who isn't playing here). She is also well up the rankings for driving accuracy and GIR's, so she seems in total control of her game. Hopefully she can take that next step in Portugal.
Marine Monnet-Melocco to win 28/1 each way at Skybet Monnet-Melocco had been one of the most consistent players on the LET before she tried her hand on the LPGA in 2003. In 2001 and 2002 she made every cut on the LET. In fact, in 2002 she finished outside the top 20 only once in 13 events in Europe. After her unsuccesful stint in the US in 2003, her form slipped, and 2004 was only average at best. However, she seems to be back to her old form, with her last four outings resulting in finishes of 3rd, 20th, 26th and 8th. For someone who has finished in the top 10 in 24 out of 76 events played on the LET, 28/1 seems like a fairly solid investment.
Minea Blomqvist to win 28/1 each way at Skybet "Minnie" let us down last start with a missed cut. But her form last year demands another crack at this price. Anyone who can shoot 62 around Wentworth must have a fair amount of talent. And this is not a strong field. I expect a better perfermence this week. |
