Women's British Open Results: 1-2 (square for the outright plays); YTD -20.2 points (inclusive of matchups) Ochoa MC Wie T3rd Koch T15th Happy to break even on the outrights after the first round left us behind the eight ball. Ochoa was terribly disappointing, but Wie again showed her class while Koch performed well after a poor 76 opening round.
All plays 1.5 points
Lorena Ochoa 14/1 each way at William Hill I am going to back up with Ochoa this week after she battled into 2nd place for us in France last week. She has been in the top 10 in 9 of her 14 stroke events this year, with most of those fields composed of the better part of this field (at least in terms of quality). Her two appearences in this event have yielded a 24h and 4th placing, and a win here would not surprise in the least.
Michelle Wie 20/1 each way at Bluesq.com Put simply, this price is too high. She is a class act, and although she remains winless and her temperament is still to be proven, Wie should not be 20/1 on an each way basis paying 5 places. She has been competitive in every LPGA event she has entered this year, and her extra length may really prove to be invaluable around Birkdale. This price is excellent value.
Carin Koch 66/1 each way at Stan James Koch is in great form with a strong 5th in the Evian last week, which followed a season full of excellent results punctuated by her win in Mexico in April. One black mark is her missed cut at Birkdale in 2000 in this event, but more recently she placed 8th around Turnberry in 2002 so she can clearly handle links courses. Her consistent recent form demands an interest at this price. |
