Chick-fil-A Charity Championship The LPGA Tour got its first home winner of the year last week and a sweet victory it was too! Jones was a 40/1 winner and this week she returns home to Georgia. It would be too much to expect her to win again and especially so as Annika Sorenstam returns to the fold. With the return of the Swede, at least some decent prices can be found for this 54-hole event which has been staged at Eagle's Landing since its inception in 1992. Sorenstam is one player that is avoided this week, instead Lorie Kane, Sophie Gustafson and Laura Diaz are this weeks outright picks. At one stage last weekend it looked as though Kane would steal the trophy away from Jones, but she faltered to finish 5th. It took her tally of top-10 finishes to an incredible 15 in her last 20 events; a period in which she has won four times, including the 2001 Takefuji LPGA Classic. Almost as impressive is her record in this event. She has the lowest average score around Eagle's Landing by some distance having finished in the top-5 in all four of her appearances here. She is yet to win, but having secured her maiden win last year, that is no longer an obstacle. Another who recorded her maiden LPGA Tour win last year was Sophie Gustafson and it was in this event that she did so! She followed that with the Women's British Open, two titles on the European Tour and the Subaru of Naples in January. Her form has not been particularly impressive of late, but she has shown her form to be rather erratic in the past and a strong finish this week is not to be ruled out. Finally, Laura Diaz completes the trio. She has finished in the top-10 in half of her tournaments this year and that includes two 2nd place finishes: the Welch's/Circle K Championship and the Longs Drugs Challenge, which was her last event two weeks ago. The price offered seems to be bear no relation to this form and while she has yet to win on Tour, another place finish would be very profitable. Outright plays: Lorie Kane to win 20/1 e.w. @ William Hill Sophie Gustafson to win 40/1 e.w. @ Ladbrokes [5 places option] Laura Diaz to win 50/1 e.w. @ BetSmart
Rosie Jones to beat Lorie Kane -102 @ Five Dimes Meg Mallon to beat Laura Diaz -105 @ Five Dimes [2 units]
2nd round update: 2-0-0 and +3.00 units A great day on the LPGA and PGA Tours Win both matchups for a complete sweep for the day and have the leader in both events going into the final round! Jones defeated Kane by six shots, while Mallon beat Diaz by three. The poor performance by Kane took her out of the running for a place win on the outrights; she now lies 46th. However, Diaz did recover her round well on the back nine and in 19th place is only four shots out of a place finish. The best hope is 40/1 shot Sophie Gustafson who went out in 30 on her way to ending to the day tied with two others at the top of the leaderboard. Could be a very nice week!
Final update: 2-0-0 and +3.00 units for the week No 3rd round plays, so just the two 2nd round play wins complete a satisfactory week on the LPGA matchups and a good record on these overall
Update on outright plays: 1-2 and +1.50 units So close in France and now even closer in Georgia Gustafson lost a two-hole play-off to Annika Sorenstam. Would have been a memorable 40/1 double on the LPGA Tour! Both Kane and Diaz had taken themselves out of contention in the 2nd round and finished 27th and 25th respectively. Satisfying profit for the week, but if only ...
