Big Apple Classic
Outright plays (1.5 units):
Laura Diaz to win 25/1 e.w. @
Stan James
Ignoring the short odds on Sorenstam, Webb and Inkster and taking on of the form
players at a price that makes a nice profit on a top-5 position. Diaz just
hasn't been able to finish the job on her last two starts and repeat her
wire-to-wire victory LPGA Corning Classic. In both the Jamie Farr Kroger Classic
and the U.S. Women's Open, she has been leading the event at the halfway cut
only to fall back with an indifferent 3rd round score. If she can improve in
that department she should go close to matching her 2nd place finish from last
year.
Beth Daniel to win 66/1 e.w. @
Stan James
Very large price for another of the form-horses on Tour at the moment. Her last
finishes since the McDonald's LPGA Championship read 2nd, 5th, 7th, 34th and
15th where she in contention throughout last week until a poor last round.
Top-30 in each of the last four years at Wykagyl, she finished 4th in 2000 and
is playing well enough to repeat that feat.
Michele Redman to win 66/1 e.w. @
Stan James
Redman has been another very consistent performer over the past two months,
securing four top-10 finishes in the process, including last week even after a
poor opening round. She won this event in 1997, finished 4th last year and
completes a trio of player who are in the top-15 in the greens in regulation
rankings, which are most important around Wykagyl.
Final update: 1-2; +6.15 units
Diaz 31st
Daniel 5th
Redman 6th
Daniel was never really in the hunt for the title, but
always looked good for a top-5 finish after the 2nd round. Redman finished just
one shot out of a top-5 place with an excellent showing over the weekend, while
Diaz was never in the tournament.
