Outright plays (1 unit unless stated):
Juli Inkster to win 20/1 e.w. available generally
Definitely going for experience this week! Inkster won this title on her debut
in 1984, has won the title on one other occasion and from 17 starts in this
event, she has finished in the top-20 on 14 occasions. Has finished 6th and 2nd
in the last two weeks - and should have won last week - so she looks in great
form to continue her fine run on this course.
Meg Mallon to win 40/1 e.w. @ BetInternet
or Surrey
Mallon's record on this course is almost as good. She has never won this title,
but has finished in the top-3 twice in the last three years. Has played only two
events this year, but closed last week with a 64 and was ranked #3 in greens hit
in regulation. She seems to have discovered her 2002 game just in time for this
event.
Kelly Robbins to win 50/1 e.w. @ Ladbrokes
[5 places option]
Top-6 in four of eight starts in this event, Robbins is another with plenty of
course experience and course form. Like the others, she has shown good signs of
form lately - four top-20 finishes from four starts this year, including 3rd
last week - and has very good greens in regulation stats which will be of prime
importance this week. Inkster, Mallon and Robbins all finished in the top-5 in
greens in regulation in last week's event.
Matchup plays (1 unit unless stated):
Emilee Klein to beat Raquel Carriedo -111 @ BetandWin
[3 units]
Carriedo may have been impressive on the European Ladies Tour last season, but
competing in the U.S. is a very different affair. She finished 53rd in her only
other LPGA Tour start - the 2001 U.S. Women's Open - and is easily opposed with
a player with plenty of course experience and secured a top-10 finish in the
Ping Banner Health two weeks ago.
Carin Koch to beat Gloria Park -111 @ BetandWin
[2 units]
Another selection with plenty of course experience against one with none. Koch
has finished in the top-20 in the last two years, while finishes of 75th and a
missed cut in the last two weeks are reason enough to oppose Park.
Meg Mallon to beat Laura Davies -140 @ Five
Dimes
Two top-10 finishes and two missed cuts, it's not been the most consistent of
seasons for Davies so far. Of 12 rounds so far this year, two have been in the
80s. Davies may blow hot or cold, but will side with the outright selection here
for a genuine shot at a top-5 finish.
Mid-point update:
Klein/Carriedo WON (Carriedo DQ)
Koch/Park All Square
Mallon/Davies Leads by 2
Inkster 44th
Mallon 36th
Robbins 66th
Huge piece of luck with Carriedo being disqualified - she was leading Klein
by eight shots! Will cover some very poor outright plays as they look completely
out of contention and may still gain a profitable event if the other two
matchups hold up. Very lucky!
Final update:
Matchups: 2-1-0; +3.60 units
Koch/Park WON by 9
Mallon/Davies LOST by 4
Outrights: 0-3; -3.00 units
Inkster 19th
Mallon 36th
Robbins 58th
Managed to get a very lucky break-even event thanks to Carriedo. Good win for
Koch who managed a top-5 finish, but no such luck for the outrights who were
never in the hunt for a payout.
