LPGA Tournament of Champions
FINAL RESULT: 0-3; -4.50pts
Han 17th
Koch 7th
Matthew 27th
All three had chances throughout the week to finish in the top-4 and it had
looked very promising in the early stages, but not by the weekend.
Outright plays (total stake per play: 1.5pts) Hee-Won Han to win 18/1 e.w.

The only one of the selections to have played in both South Korea and Japan
before the return to North America, but this is something that she has done in
each of the last two years (her only previous appearances in this event) and it
has not harmed her performance: in 2003 was never out of the top-3 all week,
eventually losing in a playoff for the title, and last year she recovered from a
slow start to finish 6th. Having finished 1st and 2nd in her last two starts in
North America, she is certainly playing well enough to continue her form on this
course. Carin Koch to win 33/1 e.w. @

Koch displayed how much of a course specialist she can be with her third 2nd
place finish in five years in the Nine Bridges Classic two weeks ago and that is
also a mark she has achieved on this course (2002). With finishes of 5th and 7th
in two of her other three appearances here, this is clearly another course on
which she can be termed a specialist and so deserves support at these odds.
Catriona Matthew to win 40/1 e.w. @

Matthew finished alongside Koch in 2nd place in 2002 and with no worse than 17th
in her four starts on this course, her course form is good enough. She may have
played poorly in her last outing in South Korea, but with six top-10 finishes in
her previous seven starts (and finishing 18th on the other occasion), such a bad
outing can easily be dismissed. Matthew certainly does not win enough relative
to the times that she is in contention, but these odds and a field without
Sorenstam are adequate compensation. |
