Further matchup play (2pts)
Carin Koch to beat Sophie Gustafson -110 @
Sportingbet
and
Sporting Odds
Gustafson continued her poor form in Hawaii last week by missing the cut
for the second consecutive year and although she was opposed with
Rosales with withdrew during the second round on that occasion, she is
opposed again this week and with a more dependable opponent. Koch did
make the cut last week and although it was a disappointing performance
overall, her record in Hawaii has been much better with top-10 finishes
in her two previous starts and she did play on this course back in 1995
and secured a top-15 finish. I have much more confidence in Koch to
complete the event this week and leave the self-destruction to
Gustafson.
Matchup plays (2pts unless stated):
Lorie Kane to beat Marisa Baena -111 @
Centrebet
A six-shot win for Kane in this match last week should be repeated. In
terms of form in Hawaii, Kane did win the 2001 Takefuji Classic and only
lost in a playoff to Annika Sorenstam the following year, so her
credentials for playing in these conditions are good. Not good enough to
win, but still good enough to beat Baena more times that these odds
would suggest.
Michele Redman to beat Ai Miyazato -120 @
Expekt
[4pts]
Had pencilled in a play on Ochoa to beat Miyazato last week, but backed
off over concerns over her erratic form following her swing changes last
year. That was a lost opportunity, so will not do the same again this
week. Miyazato has simply been very disappointing (relative to the hype)
in all her three starts this year: in the Women's World Cup in South
Africa, in the Australian Ladies Masters and in last week's SBS Open
where she finished 48th and 35 places behind Redman. So with Redman in a
run of extremely consistent form - a worst finish of 32nd since the U.S.
Women's Open last June - and with very impressive in Hawaii - top-20
finishes in each of the last four Tour events here - that also includes
a top-10 finish when this course was last used on the LPGA Tour (1995),
she should at leat finish in the top-20, which will be more than good
enough to beat Miyazato.
Karrie Webb to beat Ai Miyazato -118 @
Centrebet
[4pts]
Webb also disappointed in Australia, but she still finished four shots
ahead of Miyazato and that was her margin of victory last week in
Hawaii. In fact, since the start of the 2005 season, these two have
played in ten common events with Webb prevailing seven times, a tie
being the result twice and Miyazato finishing ahead of Webb only once
and that was in a JLPGA Tour event. Add in Webb's form in Hawaii -
before last week's 26th place finish, she had finished in the top-10 in
all her previous visits to the Islands, including one win (2000 Takefuji
Classic) - and Webb should certainly finish in the top-20 this week and
win this match.
