Ryan Spears 1.5pts e/w @ 150/1 Ladbrokes
Little known by many this week is that Web.com rookie Spears used to work in the Pro shop at Crestview while at Wichita State University and actually still lives in Wichita. He has had the advantage of having had two weeks back home and preparing, playing the course and is quoted as saying, "I wouldn't say I have an advantage...I think the only thing that I have over these guys is I've seen putts out here that they haven't seen and I know what they do and don't do". I would consider that an advantage myself given that Crestview is a birdie paradise and that Spears ranks 11th in Putting Average, 20th in Birdie Average and 27th in Par Breaking. He has a Scoring Average of 70.39 which will help on a Par 71 layout, sits 39th in Driving Accuracy and a respectable 52nd in GIR. I found it hard to come up with a negative with the 27 year old this week other than his withdrawal last time out and three MCs but they were preceded by a 5th at the South Georgia Classic and would advise a decent wager at triple figures.
Hunter Haas 1pt e/w @ 40/1 Various
Haas has been sharing his time between the PGA and Web.com Tours this year and in all honesty hasn't really set either tour on fire. His best finish was 14th in the BMW Charity Pro-Am where he went low with a final score of 17 under. He ranks highly in all the required stats to negotiate Crestview being 11th in GIR, 18th in Putting Average, 7th in Birdie Average, 10th in Par Breaking and having a Scoring Average of 70.21. While his stats make him an impressive selection it is his course form that really appeals as he has played here seven times, missed the cut only twice and has two runner up spots, a fourth and no worse than 21st. Haas certainly knows how to play Crestview and the fact that he is from Texas, where the wind blows regularly, has to be a stellar play.
Benjamin Alvarado 1pt e/w @ 80/1 Various
Young Chilean Alvarado has had a breakthrough year on the Web.com in 2013 with his first win coming back in April in the Brasil Classic, a typically low scoring birdie fest like it should be this week. Since his win, his form has dipped slightly with two immediate MCs but he put in solid performances in the BMW and Mexico Championship and his game seems to be ready made for Crestview. Alvarado ranks 12th in Driving Accuracy, 13th in GIR, 10th in Birdie Average, 9th in Scoring Average, 13th in Par Breakers and a respectable 37th in Par 5 Birdie or Better Leaders. He has never played in Wichita before which is a slight worry but has proved that he can adapt to new courses like at the BMW where he had to come to terms with three at once. Total Staked - 7pts
