Jim Herman 1pt e/w @ 40/1 Bet365
Herman has taken the step down from the PGA Tour this week as he didnt quite make the grade for the Playoffs but their loss is our gain. Last year's Web.com graduate has actually had a decent year on the bigger tour, making just over half of the cuts in tournaments he has played in and recording four top 25s and two top 10s. The most recent showing by Herman at the Wyndham Championship actually saw him finish a very creditable 11th while his best finish of 9th only came last month at the Sanderson Farms. He is clearly on a hot streak and his three appearances on the Web.com in 2013 have all seen him make the cut, his best finish being 15th at the Mid-Atlantic. On the main tour he is a decent 75th in Birdie Average and 70th in Par Breaking but it is his 19th in GIR that catches my eye and the fact that he recorded a Putting Average of 1.75 when last out at the Wyndham. He also has form at Champions Run, finishing 3rd here last year and posting a round of 63 and one of 64 while also boasting an 11th back in 2010. I missed the 55/1 he opened at but would not deter anyone from backing him at 40s.
Steven Alker 0.5pts e/w @ 140/1 Bet365
New Zealander Alker has had a bit of a patchy season full of a number of mediocre performances, four missed cuts, two top 20s and a win. His win came in the Utah Championship which is another low scoring event (he finished -22) like he will face this week which bodes well. He hasn't missed a cut since that win but at the same time hasn't really delivered a performance. His stats seem to tick all the boxes, he is 19th in GIR, 28th in Putting Average, 35th in Birdie Average, 20th in Scoring Average with 69.89, 12th in Scrambling and a respectable 47th in Par 4 Birdie or Better Leaders. He has played Champion's Run five times and missed the cut four of those but he comes here in much better form this year and should not be a triple figured price.
Jason Gore 0.5pts e/w @ 66/1 Bet365
Another surprise in terms of how big a price was available on him this week in the Californian native. Gore has some fantastic stats that will suit Champion's Run perfectly - he is 6th in GIR, 2nd in Putting Average, 2nd in Birdie Average, 13th in Scoring Average with 69.75, 2nd in Par breaking and 2nd in Par 4 Birdie or Better Leaders. In truth, I can't find someone who seems to fit the course better and would personally have him closer to 30 or 40/1 based on stats alone. However, Gore has current and course form to boot. He won this event back in 2005 when he posted a second round of 59 and a closing round of 63 and has played the course seven times in total. He doesn't have an abundance of great finishes this year but does have six top 20s and comes here on the back of his best finish for the year, a seventh at the Price Cutter Championship. Total Staked - 4pts
