Michael Putnam 2pts e/w @ 12/1 Various
Having already won twice on Tour so far this year, should Putnam win in Utah he will be guaranteed promotion to the PGA Tour, most certainly an added incentive to spur him on. His chances of moving up a grade are pretty good given that Putnam has posted a win and a pair of runner-up finishes at Willow Creek over the last seven years. In the five starts he has made in the Utah Championship he is a combined 65 under par with 13 of his 20 rounds being in the 60s. He is 3rd in GIR, 2nd in Scoring Average with 69.35, 5th for Par Breaking and 6th in Total Eagles, all of which provide him with a great foundation on which to dismantle the course.
John Peterson 1pt e/w @ 40/1 Paddy Power
Young Peterson hasn't quite been the explosive force that he was expected to be on the Web.com Tour so far this year, his best finish being 10th back in March at the Louisiana Open. Despite his lack of leaderboard presence, he did manage to finish 8th in the Zurich Classic on the PGA Tour to prove how talented he is and how on his day he can mix it with the best. His stats draw me to him this week as they seem an ideal match to Willow Creek despite this being his first appearance here. He is 34th in Driving Accuracy, 11th in GIR, 2nd in Ball Striking, 8th in Scoring Average with 69.67, 8th in Par Breaking and 7th in the Par 5 Birdie or Better stat. This could be his break-out week.
Tim Wilkinson 1pt e/w @ 66/1 Stan James
Another player who sits up in the top five for Scoring Average but who is a slightly larger price, is veteran Wilkinson. The New Zealander had an explosive start to the year finishing no worse than 15th in seven tournaments and finishing runner up in the weather shortened Stadion Classic. His last two outings have been missed cuts but that has given us a fantastic opportunity to back a player who has all the attributes to succeed at Willow Creek at a decent price. He is 3rd in Scoring Average with 69.39, 6th in Par Breaking, 5th in Birdie or Better Conversions and 6th in Scrambling - he should tear the course apart and post some low numbers. Although he has played here five times, he doesn't really have any outstanding results bar a 7th in 2005 but he has posted 15 rounds of par or better to show that he knows his way around. Total Staked - 8pts
