One of the original events on the Web.com, this will be the 15th year in a row that the Crestview Country Club has hosted the tournament and is the only 36 hole country club in Wichita with both courses having been designed by Robert Trent Jones back in 1969. The Air Capital Classic will be played on the North Course, a Par 71 track measuring 6,913 yards and where water comes into play on 11 of the 18 holes. The last ten tournaments here have yielded a winning score of no more the 18 under so a combination of Scoring Average and Birdie or Better Conversion stats will help find a contender as will looking for someone who plays the par 5 holes well as two of the holes at Crestview were among the four easiest on tour last year.
My picks are as follows:
Tommy Gainey - 0.5pts e/w @ 50/1 - Gainey has been sharing his time between PGA and Web.com in an attempt to regain his full playing rights for the bigger tour and has seemed to find a little more consistency since doing so. He has three top 10s on the Web.com and looks like he could be challenging for a win very soon and based on his stats, it could be this week. He is 16th in GIR, 24th in Birdie Average, 5th in Par 5 birdies or better, 4th in Ball Striking, 7th in Scoring Average, 9th in Total Driving and 6th in the all round ranking. He has also played the course before back in 2010 scoring two rounds in the 60s before withdrawing. Rod Pampling - 0.5pts e/w @ 66/1 - I like the look of veteran Pampling this week as he seems to have had somewhat of a resurgance of form recently, not only winning on the Web.com at the BMW but also recording a 10th and 22nd on the PGA tour amongst decent company. He is 21st in Par 5 Birdie or Better, 2nd in Putting Average, 3rd in Birdie Average, 3rd in Scoring Average and 25th in Total Driving. Lets not forget that he is Australian too so should be able to deal with the wind!
Trey Mullinax - 0.25ts e/w @ 125/1 - A fantastic talent who has only missed one cut in six appearances on the Web.com so far, I am sure he will be in the winner's circle soon. He is currently 5th in Scoring Average, 10th in Scrambling (which will help if he misses the greens or fairways), 3rd in par 5 socring average and 4th in par 5 birdies or better. Andrew Landry - 0.25pts e/w @ 160/1 - Another who's stats fit the profile for this course is Landry who seems to have lost his way on tour a little bit recently since his good start where he won in Colombia. He is 20th in GIR, 29th in Total Driving, 12th in Ball Striking and 23rd in Scoring Average. He is also from Texas and should know how to play in the wind! Alex Aragon 0.25pts e/w @ 250/1 - i simply couldnt leave last year's runner up out of my staking plan at 250/1. He hasnt had the greatest of year's so far but it doesnt read too badly with two top 10s amongst the host of MCs and more importantly, those top 10s came in windy conditions. His stats dont really stand out other than 20th in Putting Average but as I say, I'm hoping course form prevails.
