The second tournament of the year is the Colombia Championship and will be played at Bogota Country Club. The Par 72 Los Fundadores course is shortened to a 71 for the Web.com visit and previous outings here have often produced a high tournament scoring average, well over the 71 figure. In this respect it may well be worth looking for someone who came in with an impressive scoring average last week in Panama or last year. There is also rain forecast which will soften the course and make it play longer so it may suit a player who is long off the tee. Again, like last week, with little in the way of stats to go by and little early form, I am going with young, talented players and course specialists.
My picks are as follows:
Ollie Schniederjans - 1pt e/w @ 33/1 - A truly fantastic young player who has previously held the mantle of being the number 1 ranked amateur in the world. He put in a fantastic performance at the Open where he finished 12th in some difficult conditions and among great company. He made the cut last week on the PGA Tour at Torrey Pines while playing on an exemption and should make a big splash here on his debut. He is big off the tee and can deal with adverse weather conditions given his prioor performances and the fact he is from Texas. Take this price as I feel he should be a lot shorter! Hao Tong Li - 0.5pts e/w @ 40/1 - Another player with a huge amount of talent as displayed in the WGC Champions. We were on him last week where he missed the cut but I am willing to go with him again. He is another who has some distance off the tee which could play into his hands if the course is wet. Kyle Thompson - 0.25pts e/w @ 80/1 - A four time winneron tour and a solid performance last week in finishing 9th. He had a scoring average of 67.75 last week which will bode him well on a Par 71 course and had a par 4 conversion rate of 23% which will againhelp him here. He has played here four times before but has only made the cut once which is a worry but I am willing to chance him at such a large price. Darron Stiles 0.125pts e/w @ 200/1 - Hitting the twighlight of his career probably but has recently teed it up on the PGA although he has missed 4 of his last 5 cuts. He is short off the tee but has a decent history of being a good par 4 scorer and some good course form, missing no cuts in 4 appearances and finishing a best position of 8th back in 2011. Last year he opened with a 65 before fading away but I am hoping he has more in the locker this year.
Total Staked: 3.75pts
