Reno-Tahoe Open
Outright plays (1 unit):
Tim Herron to win 25/1 e.w. @
BetInternet
and BlueSq
Had struggled until last week - he had missed his last four cuts - but
there were little signs of this as he entered last weekend in the top-5
on the PGA Championship leaderboard. He did falter to finish 14th, but
he is a player who records high finishes in spells and this could be one
of them. He did finish 12th and 7th on this course in 2000 and 2001 so
he does know how to master this course and he will face far less
daunting competition this week if he finds himself in the same position
heading into the weekend.
Rod Pampling to win 25/1 e.w. @ BetDirect
Certainly one of the form players in this field with top-25 finishes in
each of his last four events and an early leader in last week's PGA
Championship. He finished in the top-20 last year and while he has
struggled to win events when in contention, he shouldn't be too far from
the leaders on Sunday.
Luke Donald to win 33/1 e.w. @
Coral
Donald has won on this Tour - the rain-shortened Southern Farm Bureau
Classic last year - and has shown good form recently. He was 23rd last
week and 3rd in the Scandinavian Masters two weeks beforehand. He can
certainly win in this company and should certainly match his top-20
finish of last year.
Final update: 2-1; +4.25 units
Herron 2nd
Pampling 3rd
Donald 36th
With two selections in the final group on Sunday, I was hoping to
catch the winner and while they had the measure of the rest of the
field, I didn't foresee a 63 from Triplett to steal the title.
Disheartening, loss-making week overall as had nine selections in
contention across four events heading into the final round, but ended
with no winners and only three place wins. Better to be close than not
at all, I suppose.
