Matchup Picks - PGA Tour

Tipsters: Stanley (72-hole matchups) & Andy (18-hole matchups)

84 Lumber Classic

FINAL RESULT: 3-5-0; -6.14pts

Baddeley/Duval LOST by 6
Singh/Cink LOST by 1.5
Singh/DiMarco WON by 0.5
Singh/Weir WON by 13.5
Jacobson/Daly LOST by 7
Sabbatini/Daly LOST by 5
Sindelar/Hayes WON by 1
Rollins/Lickliter LOST by 2

Not a good week on the matchups, but should have still ensured a small profit with three plays on Singh who won the event. Thought that would be enough, but it wasn't with the handicap and Cink finishing a very strong 2nd.

4th round play (1.5pts)  * by Stanley *

John Rollins to beat Frank Lickliter -110 @ Five Dimes
Siding with the player who is playing much better from tee to green and has been in much better form of late. It is also of note that Lickliter is not a good Sunday player - he yet to shoot a lower score than Rollins on any Sunday this year.

3rd round play (1.5pts)  * by Stanley *

Joey Sindelar to beat J.P. Hayes +100 @ SkyBet, BetInternet, Victor Chandler and Ladbrokes
Hayes' game started to fall apart yesterday with just seven of eighteen greens hit in regulation, but it was saved by taking just 22 putts. He can't putt as well again, so siding with Sindelar who was a surprise winner of the Wachovia Championship in May, but has also been playing particularly well for the last month.

72-hole plays (1.5pts unless stated):

Aaron Baddeley to beat David Duval -135 @ Olympic
Picked Badds in this matchup two weeks ago and lost, but I'm yet to be convinced that Duval is back in any sense of the word. Just need the Australian to make the cut and he should win this time around.

Vijay Singh to beat Stewart Cink -2.5 shots -115 @ Olympic [3pts]
With a 2.5 shot handicap in each event, this match would be evenly balanced in 2004. But this is not a typical week on the PGA Tour. Cink had been the form player for the U.S. team heading into last week, but looked ragged and out of confidence, whereas Vijay has taken a well-earned breather. Singh tends to play extremely well at this time of the year when motivation is very important and it is that which should be a major problem for Cink this week. Vijay has, after all, won four of his last five events.

Vijay Singh to beat Chris DiMarco -2.5 shots -130 @ Olympic
Similar story here, though obviously I don't expect as much of a Ryder Cup fallout from my outright selection as for Cink.

Vijay Singh to beat Mike Weir -1.5 shots -130 @ Olympic
Even with the 1.5 shot handicap, Singh would have finished ahead of Weir in 10 of 16 common events this year. And while this is a replay of the playoff for the Canadian Open two weeks ago, Weir is juts not consistent enough to challenge the World No.1 in this match each week.

Fredrik Jacobson to beat John Daly -120 @ William Hill and Easybets
Daly's form is clearly not at the same level as it was at the start of the season and while he does have links to this event via his sponsors and the event organiser, I can't see him being competitive this week. Jacobson has finished ahead of him in each of their last six common events and that makes these odds rather generous.

Rory Sabbatini to beat John Daly -114 @ Expekt
Daly has failed to finish ahead of Sabbatini in any event since the Bay Hill Invitational in March. That's a clear indication of how his form has dipped! With Sabbatini finishing in the top-10 last year, he should extend the run around this course.
