FINAL RESULT: 1-3; +1.88pts
Pettersson 5th
Mahan mc
Ogilvie mc
Waldorf 11th
Amazing finish by Pettersson to come from nowhere to snatch a tie for
5th place and a place win. He did miss a 5ft putt on the last hole, but
he would have still finished one behind Stolz anyway. Had hope for
better from Waldorf, but he rediscovered the art of dropping shots over
the weekend.
Further outright play (1.5pts):
Duffy Waldorf to win 16/1 e.w. @
BetDirect
Waldorf currently stands in 5th place, two shots out of the
lead, but the players ahead of him have a total of just one Tour win in
the last five years, so they can be expected to struggle under the
weekend pressure. So it looks a good position to be in and given that he
ranks in the top-5 for the week for both driving accuracy and greens in
regulation and has yet to drop a shot all week, he is very playing well.
He should improve on his 7th place finish in his last event.
Outright plays (1.5pts):
Carl Pettersson to win 80/1 e.w. @

Some bigger prices than usual on the PGA Tour selections, but all
certainly capable of a top-5 finish at least and they all played well
when the Tour was in Nevada a few weeks ago. Pettersson finished 5th on
that occasion, just one shot out of the playoff and was also 10th last
week. With the 'name' players in far from convincing form, this is a
tournament for bigger-priced players to win and Pettersson is certainly
playing well enough to give himself a chance.
Hunter Mahan to win 100/1 e.w. @
BetDirect
Big price that will not last - Mahan is more generally available at half
these odds. Like Pettersson, he will be making his debut in this event,
but also like Pettersson, he finished in the top-5 in the Reno-Tahoe
Open. He did make it to the playoff, but lost out to Vaughn Taylor. But
with two further top-5 finishes in his last two starts, he is clearly
going to win a Tour event sooner or later and if so, it may be a very
long time before this promising player is available at these odds again
in a regular Tour event.
Joe Ogilvie to win 100/1 e.w. @
Paddy Power
Ogilvie finished in 9th place in the Reno-Tahoe Open last month and, in
contrast to the other selections, does have event experience, finishing
10th in 1999. His form has also been good recently with finishes of 3rd
and 14th in his last two starts, but apart from securing a maiden Tour
win, Ogilvie has the added incentive of the Money List this week. He is
currently ranked 44th, with the top-40 gaining entry to the Masters next
year and the top-30 competing in the Tour Championship at the end of the
season. Both are easily attainable with a high finish this week and
these odds really are too high for a player in this position.
