Fed Ex St. Jude Classic (1.5pts):
Fredrik Jacobson to win 20/1 e.w. @
Ladbrokes
Jacobson's price is steadily falling across all the books and, on paper,
deservedly so. He was in 2nd place when withdrew after the 1st round of
last tournament, the Wachovia Championship, to be with his wife who was
giving birth to their son. Prior to that, he had finished in the top-20
in four of his last five starts and these were among much stronger
fields than this week. Plus he finished 3rd last year on this course. He
will win on this Tour and this event looks to be likely starting point.
Kirk Triplett to win 25/1 e.w. @
SkyBet and
Victor
Chandler
A little uncomfortable backing Triplett at this price as he is far from
a proven winner, but this is such a weak field and he is very consistent
at the moment. He has seven top-15 finishes from eleven starts this year
and consistently ranks highly in the greens in regulation stats each
week. He is also far better on easier courses and the TPC at Southwind
is certainly one of these. He has finished in the top-15 in six of his
last nine starts here, so consistency is one reason to back him each-way
this week.
Brian Bateman to finish in the top-five 10/1 @
SkyBet
Consistency is certainly a good enough reason to back Bateman at the
moment. His final round 71 on Sunday was the first time in his last
three events that he has not shot a round in the 60s. In all three
events, he has finished in the top-15 and now ranks 40th on the Money
List and in the top-10 in the All-Around Ranking stat category. After
three successive, though successful, trips to Q-School, it looks as
though his will earn his Tour Card during the regular season this year.
In this form and with two years' course experience, he should be shorter
than 10/1 to finish in the top-5 and he should certainly restart his run
of rounds in the 60s around this course.
Final update: 1-2; -3.56pts
Jacobson 5th
Triplett 54th
Bateman 54th
Good effort by Jacobson to overcome an opening 75 and
finish in a four-way tie for 5th for a small payout. He gave up eight
shots on Toms in the first round and finished eight shots behind him on
Sunday. Bateman looked as though he would be a winner until finishing
bogey-triple bogey in the 3rd round. At least the matchups covered the
losses.
