AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am
FINAL RESULT: -6.85pts
Goydos found a place in the w/o Mickelson market, but another bad week I'm afraid.
Update after round 3:
Certainly picked a bad time to back Singh! When was the last time he had 3 back to back over par rounds?
The title is all but Mickelson's but fortunately there are plenty of without Mickelson books to turn our attention to. There should always be caution in such markets as there is a question of motivation if players know there is no chance of actually winning. One player for whom motivation should be no problem at all is Andrew Magee. Playing on a major medical extension he is under pressure to accumulate money as quickly as possible. A second place finish here would easily take him over the required threshold thus guaranteeing his card. Another player I'm going to go for is Jeff Sluman - the fact that he has managed to get to 10 under at all playing in the same group as Bill Murray all week is a minor miracle in itself! His play has been improving throughout the week and the price is too big to turn down. Paul Goydos has been really hot with the putter this week and is another in the same boat as Magee with a major medical extension and needing prize money.
Back Andrew Magee 1pt e/w (w/o Mickelson) @12/1 (4 places 1/4 odds) at William Hill, Stan James
Back Jeff Sluman 0.5 pts e/w (w/o Mickelson) @22/1 (4 places 1/4 odds) at Coral
Back Paul Goydos 0.75 pts e/w (w/o Mickelson) @16/1 (4 places 1/5 odds) at BetDirect

It's somewhat surprising to see odds of 5/1 on Vijay in this strength of field. It's even more surprising when this is an event where he has a fantastic record and is the defending champion. Backing the favourite isn't something I'll be making a habit of, but I'll make an exception here.
Back Vijay Singh 3pts @5/1 at SkyBet and GolfingGods Alternatively back at 6.2 on Betfair - which after commission is marginally worse odds than at the books, but the difference is very small.
Other than Singh, a couple of players who generally do well in pro-ams are Jerry Kelly and Fred Couples. Both have already shown enough form this year to suggest there are no early season cobwebs left to be blown off.
Back Jerry Kelly 0.75pts e/w @40/1 at GolfingGods
Back Fred Couples 1pt @95 at Betfair
After consideration of feedback I have received (many thanks to those who got in touch) I have decided to stop posting plays which are based on early Monday prices which invariably do not last long enough for many people to get them. From now on any pre-tournament plays posted will be made after the markets have had a chance to 'settle down' (Monday evening - Tuesday morning) so the prices will be available to a wider number of people. This also means that there will very rarely be any opportunity for pre-tournament trading as has been used the past few weeks.
I will also be having a slight shift in focus to provide more in-running plays - although note that these will only ever be posted in between rounds.
I hope that these changes will make the page more useful to everyone.
