Apart from a 2nd round 63 from Zach Johnson that even included a
double-bogey, there was not much to cheer in this event.

Easy choice in such a field weakened by successive weeks of a major and a WGC
event. His form has been poor since the Florida events in March, but in his last
three starts he has finished 2nd, 17th and 9th with only one round above 70. To
add to his credentials, he was tied for the lead after 36 holes of his debut
last year and though a 3rd-round 73 seemed to end his chances, he closed with
five straight birdies in the final round and finished only one shot out of the
playoff.
Charles Howell to win 40/1 e.w. @

With the favourite, Kenny Perry, showing last week why he shouldn't be at
single-figure odds, this also represents a good opportunity for Howell. He
missed the cut as an amateur in 1997, but finished in the top-35 each year from
2000 (the week after turning professional) to 2002. He hasn't returned since,
but is now a far better player and comes into the event on the back of finishes
of 5th in the International and 15th in the PGA Championship.
Pat Perez to win 66/1 e.w. @

Another player in excellent form with finishes in 5th in the Western Open and
6th in the PGA Championship in his last three starts. His record in this event
in the last two years is poor and given that this course is notable for its
small, upturned greens, it is not surprising as he has ranked outside the
top-100 in scrambling in each year. But this year he has turned around that part
of his game and now ranks 2nd on the Tour in that department. He now has the
game as well as the form to play well on this course.
