Matchup bets:
Stake 2pts Stephen Ames to beat Aaron Baddeley -105 @ Pinnacle I still don't know how did Baddeley won this event last season? He was out of form, had missed the cut in his
previous start here and he doesn't have the accurate game suited to this course. But win he did and his game
has come on considerably for that win. But when all the facts are analysed I can't escape the fact that he is more
likely to perform below average on this course. Ames continued his fine form with a 17th place finish at Augusta
and has finished in the top ten in his last two starts here. He should be a clear favourite around the -120 mark.
Stake 2pts Stewart Cink to beat Davis Love III +100 @ Carib Love has a formidible record here and from his last ten finishes here 8 have been in the top ten. But two of those
finishes outside the top ten have been in the last three years and he only leads Cink by 4-3 in the h2h's here. Cink
is no slouch here either with a couple of wins and two other top ten finishes. He is also the better player, 13-4 lead
in h2h's over the past 12 months and showed himself to be in fine form last week at Augusta to finish 17th, albeit
never really being in contention. But then that's probably not such a bad thing. Despite Love's impressive record here
it is deteriorating and I don't believe he should be such a clear.
**** There is also +100 at Ladbrokes with the tie as a loser. ****
Further Matchup bets:
Stake 2pts Scott Verplank to beat Tom Pernice Jnr -110 @ BlueSq Despite Verplank's game deteriorating of late I still rank him as slightly the better player and not a lot to separate
these two on current form, but course form is where the big difference lies. Both players have played in this event
each year since 1999 and the h2h is 6-1 in Verrplanks favour. Pernice has managed a 7th place here in 2003 but
he has missed the cut in five out of those eight years. This course plays into Verplanks hands as it doesn't favour
length but requires an accurate game. Verplanks iron play may not be of the level it was a few years ago but he is
still very accurate off the tee and is a good scrambler.
Stake 2pts Jonathan Byrd to beat Dean Wilson -115 @ The Greek Byrd is the better player and holds an 8-3 h2h lead over Wilson over the last 12 months. He is a Clemson boy and
although he doesn't have a great record here he did finish 16th in 2004 and opened with a 67 before withdrawing
last year. It's also a better record than Wilson can boast who missed the cut last year and has a best place finish of
23rd back in 2003.
