With a 9-4 h2h lead in all tournaments last year Scott deserves favouritism here, even accounting for Donald's greater

consistency, but even more so given the conditions of this event. Scott has decent recent form, two previous top ten

finishes here, a decent game in windy conditions and a superb long game which will almost certainly help on a course

of this length. Even his putting has shown up well on his previous visits here. Donald's only previous experience here is

a 15th place finish back in 2003 but his game really shouldn't be suited to a course of length.

 

Choi has a decent record in Hawaii and finished a good 2nd on his course debut in 2003 when he set a course record

of 62 in R3 and it took an inspired performance from Els to beat him. Last year he finished a disappointing 19th but he

wouldn't have been favoured by the excessive wind of that week. He seems to favour these type of courses with wide

fairways and in his two previous visits here his stats were impressive and even his putting held up well. The primary

concern though is if the Durant who finished last season 2-6-1-4-3 turns up or if the normal inconsistent one does. It's

been over 2 months since Durant had that amazing finish to the season and there's no reason to suspect he is still capable

of showing that form. Choi is basically a far better player than Durant =(11-5 on h2h's last season and an average FP of

almost 15 better) and this is clear value to me.
