Yet to play on this course, but that was also the case last week and he still
finished 3rd in the Mercedes-Benz Championship. The wind will once again be a
factor and so will Tour rustiness, so the Southern Hemisphere player should
again have an advantage over most of the field in this first full-field event of
the season. But either way, he has shown over the last eight months that he is a
world class player (ten top-10 finishes in his last 17 Tour starts) and should
once again be a very strong challenger this week. Stan James offer 18/1, but as
with the other selections, the added place is good value.
Nathan Green to win 50/1 e.w. @

Green also comes into this event having been active over the PGA Tour off-season
and very impressively as well. In his four Australasian Tour events since the
2006 PGA Tour season ended, he has finished 5th, 17th, 1st (New Zealand Open)
and 7th. But unlike Immelman, he does have course form, having finished 5th last
year on his debut with rounds of 65 and 64 over the weekend. He would go on to
make the playoff for the Buick Invitational in his next event, so the value of
early season preparation is evident with Green and that should produce dividends
again this year.
J.B. Holmes to win 50/1 e.w. @

Such early season preparation is not the case with Holmes who suffered from
chronic tonsillitis last month and underwent considerable weight loss.
Nevertheless, he finished a very impressive 4th last week, ranking 1st in greens
in regulation and should his strength be maintained, he could certainly carry
that form into another strong finish this week. He is certainly helped by the
PGA Tour deciding that the rough should be no more than 2½
inches - an inch shorter than last year when he finished 10th on his course
debut. Before that event, he had missed both his cuts on the PGA Tour, but now
he is in great form and is looking to repeat last year's early-season win. |
