I am expecting the weather to be a big factor this week up to 60 kph winds expected the first 2 days anyone playing the classic course may well be blown away. For that reason I have opted for the following plays:-

S Verplank 1pt ew @ 20/1 VCbet, ToteSport, BetFred  22nd

Has had 2 top finishes in his last 2 starts and really is mr consistent. Has had hand surgery but all is reported well and had a solid rather than
spectacular display in the first tournament of the year. Does not mind the format this week which is important as the rounds to drag on and it is an endurance test especially if the weather is bad !

L Glover 1pt ew @ 33/1 Generally available.  62nd

Again 2 good solid performances here the last 2 years finishing 10th and 13th. Opens up on La Quinta which is the perfect draw and expect him to go well having been fully rested.

A great up and coming player and had a great year last year. Pretty much a local having gone to school here so the crowd will be on his side so will have all the local knowledge and can play in the wind. Also got through Q-School here in Palm Springs and providing he doesn't start the year a little rusty is sure to put in a good week.

Had a good start to the year last week and shows he does not mind the format. Opens up on Silver Rock which is a bit of an unknown quantity but doesn't mind windy conditions and expect another solid week at decent odds

F.Couples to finish Top Ten 1pt @ 11/1 SkyBet  56th

A bit of a speculative play really but lives in the desert now, loves this format and providing hid back is ok should give a decent account of himself. Can't see him winning but no reason why he can't sneak inside the top 10 !

A very speculative play but I have heard he has been putting in some serious practise and his love for the game has returned. He did shoot 59 here in 1999 to win and this may be the start of a great recovery. You are probably thinking why I am not making this a top 10 play but it is simply because I think if his game has returned as rumours have it, then I expect him to finish near the top of the board or miss the cut !
