8-10; -4.17pts

Round 1 plays (1pt):

Robert Allenby to beat Zach Johnson -110 @ Paddy Power and The Greek [available generally]  LOST by 3
These two have played in 16 common events over the last year with Johnson finishing ahead of Allenby just three times and shooting a lower first round score than Allenby just three times. The margin of victory was 10 shots after just two rounds last year and there has been little from Johnson recently to suggest this week should be any different.

Jim Furyk to beat Ernie Els +100 @ SkyBet [available generally]  LOST by 6
Two players with good records around this course, but Furyk has been the better more recently - he beat Els by 12 shots over two rounds last year - and has been the more consistent of the two in the intervening period. I can't see any Masters hangover affecting Furyk this week and certainly not in the first round.

Scott Verplank to beat Trevor Immelman -125 @ Carib  LOST by 6
His two visits in the last five years have resulted in two missed cuts for Immelman and that contrasts sharply with Verplank who is a regular every year and hasn't missed the cut since 1999. As with Furyk, a strong performance last week (4th) should see Verplank carry momentum into this event particularly on such a distinctive course.

Justin Leonard to beat Rory Sabbatini -125 @ Pinnacle [also available @ Five Dimes]  TIED
With just one previous appearance in this event - and that was a missed cut by six shots in 2001 - it is a surprise to see Sabbatini playing this week. Leonard hasn't missed a cut here since winning in 2002 and is another who should be well-suited to this type of course.

Jonathan Byrd to beat Daniel Chopra -133 @ Unibet  WON by 1
With top-15 finishes in his last three events, Byrd has a consistency that rarely reaches Chopra - the American has a worst 1st round score of 72 this year; Chopra has shot worse than that score in 6 of 11 starts this year.

Bob Estes to beat Jose Coceres -120 @ William Hill [available generally]  WON by 5

NOTES

Plays will typically be 1pt and cover only '2-ball' matches rather than '3-balls' matches. Note that '1pt' represents 'to win 1pt' if the player is odds-on (negative in moneyline terms or less than 2.0 in decimal odds) and represents '1pt staked' if the player is odds-against (positive in moneyline terms or at least 2.0 in decimal odds). If ties lose, this will be indicated.

Reasons will be given for round 1 plays, but thereafter the plays will be listed only - there is less time for handicapping between rounds, plus if I detail too many intra-round angles during the course of the season, the odds will surely be adjusted in future if the angles are profitable.
