Sell Shigeki Maruyama over Tim Petrovic 18H R1 MB at 5 with Sporting Index for 0.5 Pts M/U 25, Loss 10 Pts 12th at the Sony and, more importantly, 10th last week means Sporting see Maruyama as a 5-8 favourite this week but it just seems far too high. In fact, I would argue it is the most questionable 18H price of the season so far. Negatives for Petrovic is that he is 5-7 in R1 matches and also has yet to beat 66th place in 5 starts this year, but his scoring record is much better than Maruyama over the last 12 months and he has gone on to win 7 of those 12 match ups. Maruyama misses 1 in every 2 cuts on this tour suggesting he is very hit and miss and it may not take a particularly low score to win this bet. Sell J.B. Holmes over Jonathan Byrd 18H R1 MB at 2 with Sporting Index for 0.5 Pts M/U -19, Profit 10.5 Pts Course form and H2Hs suggest this price to be right but overall I have these players fairly equal all in and 2-5 seems a bit high, although not as valuable as the first trade.
Sell Ryo Ishikawa over Brendon de Jonge 18H R1 MB at 1 with Sporting Index for 0.5 Pts M/U -22, Profit 11.5 Pts It's the debut on US Soil of the "potential" new superstar. Ishikawa comes into this event on the back of a win and 3 further Top 5's in Japan in his last 5 starts, not bad for a 17 year old. This is a huge step up though and the eyes of the world will be watching and it may just take a round to get settled. De Jonge played very successfully last year on the Nationwide Tour and had 9 Top 10's including one win. His PGA record this year is 3 cuts made from 5 with a 25th place the highlight.
Sell Vijay Singh over Steve Stricker 18H R1 MB at 1 with Sporting Index for 0.5 Pts M/U -22, Profit 11.5 Pts Singh came back from surgery last week and missed the cut at Pebble. His record here is poor for someone of his standing with 18th the best of 6 starts albeit making every cut possible. Stricker was 11th here last year, the best in 5 starts and was 3rd at the "Hope" a few weeks ago. There is a touch of value at the price but undoubtedly the two value bets are the first and third quoted.
Buy Retief Goosen FP at 41 with Sporting Index for 0.5 Pts M/U 69, Profit 14 Pts Buying Goosen again, as his record here is really poor. He has never broken 70 in 6 rounds and missed the cut by some way last year. We have a really good field in opposition this week and arguably he should be mid 40s even although he has played well recently.
