Stake 2.5pts Austin to beat Gay -105 @ Pinnacle

Although Gay is a multiple winner this term and won recently as two weeks ago he has had numerous starts in this event and shown very little. Austin managed three top ten finishes between 2004 and 2006 and although his two subsequent efforts haven't been that great he is going into this years event in far better form. He already holds a 12-8 12 month h2h lead over Gay so with his previous course form advantage he should be favourite here. In 2007 Toms returned to play this event after an eight year hiatus and earned a sixth place finish followed by a 27th place finnish last year. His form has been solid all year long and consistent enough to suggest that he can put in another strong showing this year.

Despite Garcia obvious putting problems he is such a good ball striker that he rarely finishes down the field. His current form is excellent with three decent performances in his last four starts and although his only start here was back in 2002 he did finish a creditable 20th. Singh has rediscovered some of his old form of late and his recent stats have been very encouraging. In the last two years at this event he has been placed on both occasions. For Johnson to justify his odds here against players of this class I would expect him to have some seriously good course form. But he has acheived one good finish, a missed cut and two average finishes from his four previous starts. And his current form isn't good enough to warrant joint favouritism in these matchups.
