9-4; +3.84pts

Round 1 plays (1pt):

Ernie Els to beat Rory McIlroy -111 @ Bet365 [also available @ FiveDimes]  LOST by 6
Opposing McIlroy on his event debut. I can't see him playing well on a U.S. Open course (despite the wet weather) until he has had more experience of this. He missed his last cut in the U.S. (the Players Championship) by seven shots, so he really shouldn't beat a former champion whose form has been noticeably improved of late.

David Toms to beat Rory McIlroy +110 @ Paddy Power [available generally]  WON by 3
Toms may not be a former U.S. Open champion, but he has finished in the top-5 twice in the last six years and only missed one cut this decade. Like Els, he has shown good form of late and shouldn't be too far from the leaderboard despite the wet conditions.

Thomas Levet to beat Raphael Jacquelin -130 @ Unibet  WON by 1
This will be Levet's fifth appearance in the U.S. Open and that includes a top-20 finish when this course was last used in 2002. With form figures that read 1st, mc, 8th and 9th in his last four starts, there appears to be a decent chance that he will repeat his 2002 finish this year, particularly as he is a notably good wet weather player. Jacquelin is making his debut in the U.S. Open and his last four starts have yielded finishes of 41st, 71st, mc and mc ... he shouldn't win this French matchup.

Thomas Levet to beat Jean-Francois Lucquin -175 @ Unibet  WON by 1
Another French matchup from Unibet featuring Levet against another player making his U.S. Open debut. Lucquin simply isn't in the same class as Levet who has finished ahead of him in nine of their last eleven common events and so these odds are certainly deserved.

Kenny Perry to beat Rory McIlroy -103 @ Expekt  WON by 1
Adding a third player to beat McIlroy who has never finished behind McIlroy in a strokeplay event. I can't see McIlroy reversing that stat on his debut in the U.S. Open.

Round 2 plays (1pt):

Vijay Singh to beat Jeev Milkha Singh -189 @ Unibet  WON by 1

Michael Sim to beat Drew Weaver -165 @ The Greek  WON by 2

K.J. Choi to beat Casey Wittenberg -145 @ FiveDimes  WON by 7

K.J. Choi to beat Jeev Milkha Singh -161 @ Unibet  WON by 2

Bubba Watson to beat Andres Romero -130 @ FiveDimes  TIED

Round 4 plays (1pt):

Mike Weir to beat David Duval -145 @ The Greek  LOST by 3

Lucas Glover to beat David Duval -150 @ FiveDimes  LOST by 2

K.J. Choi to beat Angel Cabrera -110 @ The Greek  WON by 3

Hunter Mahan to beat Ross Fisher -110 @ The Greek  TIED

Mike Weir to beat Ross Fisher -120 @ Bet365  LOST by 2

NOTES

Plays will typically be 1pt and cover only '2-ball' matches rather than '3-balls' matches. Note that '1pt' represents 'to win 1pt' if the player is odds-on (negative in moneyline terms or less than 2.0 in decimal odds) and represents '1pt staked' if the player is odds-against (positive in moneyline terms or at least 2.0 in decimal odds). If ties lose, this will be indicated.

Reasons will be given for round 1 plays, but thereafter the plays will be listed only - there is less time for handicapping between rounds, plus if I detail too many intra-round angles during the course of the season, the odds will surely be adjusted in future if the angles are profitable.
