RESULT: 2-4, +11.28 update after round 2: In a strong position now with D Johnson leading and Stricker 2nd. Taking a little out of both just to guarantee a profit on the week but hopefully one of them will see it through. Also have Pettersson as an outside chance so will leave a lay up in-running for him in case he mounts a charge. LAY Steve Stricker to a liability of 6pts @6.4 (i.e. stake 1.11pts) LAY Dustin Johnson to a liability of 2pts @1.7 (i.e. stake 2.86pts) position now: Steve Stricker: 9.1 Dustin Johnson: 11.28 Carl Pettersson: 26.18 The Field: 0.14 to leave in-running: LAY Carl Pettersson to a liability of 10pts @3 (i.e. stake 5pts) -- unmatched -------------------------------------- BACK Steve Stricker to win 15pts @15 (i.e. stake 1.07pts) BACK Dustin Johnson to win 15pts @16 (i.e. stake 1pts) BACK Carl Pettersson to win 25pts @25 (i.e. stake 1.04pts) BACK Zach Johnson to win 25pts @36 (i.e. stake 0.71pts) Stricker comes here as defending champion, in an event where defending champions have done very well (Appleby won it 3 years running). As well as that win he has a generally good record in Hawaii and while his mettle may still be suspect in majors this is the sort of 2nd tier event he has won plenty of in recent years. Dustin Johnson is a mercurial sort of player who can sometimes seem as likely to finish last as finish first. So, while you never know which DJ is going to turn up, his best is better than anyone else's in this field best which to me makes him worth a stab at these odds. Not got the best course form but this is a course where experience seems to pay so with 3 visits already under his belt that could be set to improve. Good record at Pebble which has some similarlites in being an exposed coastal layout with steep changes in elevation. Pettersson was 4th here last year and has a good record in Hawaii with a couple of other top 5 finishes in the Sony Open in recent years. Fits the profile of an experienced campaigner with a patient approach and multiple wins to his name. Zach Johnson is another with that same profile and while his course form here is a little discouraging he did manage a 6th place in 2009 and in that same year he won the Sony Open in Hawaii. Like all the picks this week he has been around the block many times and should be entirely comfortable if he gets in to contention here. |
