8.8pts Jimmy Walker v Brendon de Jonge (12/11 Pinnacle) Despite last week's relatively disappointing effort from Walker I'm happy to give him another chance back at Pebble Beach in a state where he tends to show his best form. Walker is on an extremely consistent run of form having now made the cut in his last 14 events and has a superb record in California, finishing top 10 an amazing 7 times in his last 10 starts in the Golden State, including top 10s on his last two starts at Pebble. Palmer too is in excellent form, but tends to struggle on the Poa Annua greens here and has a best finish of just 23rd back in 2006 from 7 attempts. Perhaps this shouldn't come as a great surprise though, as Palmer's game is very reliant on his often streaky putting and his overall record in California is very modest for a player of his calibre, registering just 3 top 10s in 31 starts. On paper at least Walker looks must bet material and I can't quite understand why he's been priced as the outsider in this match-up. 5.5 pts Tim Clark v Brendon de Jonge (evs BetVictor) After unsuccessfully opposing Clark last week I'm keeping him onside back at a tournament he clearly enjoys. With 5 top 25 finishes from 7 starts his record contrasts markedly with de Jonge who, like Palmer, appears to struggle on the greens here and has a best finish of just 44th from 4 attempts. Again location form favours the South African with Clark winning 5 of their 8 mutual starts in California. |
